Why Join Rotary
Why Join Rotary
There are many reasons. Here are some of them.
Friendship The nature of Rotary means that many people who join are nice people who care about others. This makes friendship easy & most Rotarians count amongst their best friends, other Rotarians. This is one of the two things Rotary’s founders had in mind when it began in 1905.
Business Development Also from its beginning, Rotary has deliberately sought members from many different areas of business & other community sectors. This provided endless opportunities for networking, learning, helping & getting help from others.
Personal Growth Rotary provides a continuous learning experience for members to develop their personal skills & relationships.
Leadership Service in Rotary brings you in frequent contact with community leaders & other successful people. It is difficult not to learn how to motivate, influence & lead others.
Community participation The things you will do as part of a Rotary club will make you a more active, better citizen of your community.
Mental stimulation Almost every week, your club will focus on things of interest at community, national or international level, very often involving a prominent speaker.
Fun There’s fun to be had in all aspects of Rotary, meetings & social activities, club projects & service.
Public Speaking Skills Although you may initially be lacking confidence in speaking to a group, you will find that your Rotary activities amongst a friendly group allow you to painlessly develop this confidence.
International Citizenship Rotarians are members of Rotary International & will be welcomed at any meeting of any of the 28,000 clubs in 188 countries & regions around the world. The projects you may be involved with could occur anywhere in the world.
Home away from home If you are away from home & need help or advice, the local Rotary club will always do whatever it can for you.
Entertainment Rotary is not just about service. All clubs organize social events & activities for members & their families. Similarly, District Conferences & Assemblies are annual events for entertainment & learning.
Social Skills The growth of personal, social & people skills comes naturally as you interact with Rotary & Rotarians.
Ethics Rotary’s “Four Way Test” provides the ethical framework that all Rotarians are expected to practice at both personal & business levels. If the world adopted this ethical standard, it would be a much better place. The Four-Way Test asks of the things we think, say or do:
- Is it the truth?
- Is it fair to all concerned?
- Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
- Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Cultural Awareness Rotary sees no boundaries. Religion, nationality, culture, race, creed, politics, language, colour & ethnicity are simply differences to be celebrated & learned from. None of these factors stand in the way of acceptance within Rotary which makes for an extraordinarily diverse membership.
Prestige Rotary is the oldest & most prestigious service club in the world. Its membership includes leaders & great thinkers from all segments of society & it is internationally recognized for what it is & what it does.
Nice People By its very nature, Rotary attracts nice people who care & want to do something good for society. People who don’t have those values tend not to be interested.
Transparency There’s nothing secret or clandestine about Rotary. Everything it does is done in the open by good people who simply want to make a difference.
Opportunity for service Rotary’s business is mankind, its product is service & membership provides the wonderful opportunity to participate. It’s the best reason for being a Rotarian because it enables you to make a positive contribution to others in need & provides you with the fulfillment & satisfaction that comes from this rewarding experience.
