Orphanage for 75 in East Timor
In response to a need in Salau, a remote village in Timore Leste, the Rotary Club of Balwyn embarked on a project to convert and extend an old school building to accommodate 75 orphans.
The property owned ny the Dominican Sisters provides for farms to be developed to enable a good level of self-sufficiency catering for the orphans and the resident Sisters but also providing an agrarian component to their education.
Funding of A$170,000 and administration of the project was contributed by the Rotary Club of Balwyn.
The official opening and dedication of the new facility was conducted in May 2013 as the Salau Community House.
