On this evening we will hear from Barry Hickman. Barry is a past president of the Rotary Club of Brighton. He is on the Board of Violence Free Families and Assistant Governor for D9800 Eastside Cluster. Through Rotary, he has led fund raising activities, acted as a mentor for the White Lion Foundation for youth in trouble with the law and shared leadership of an international award-winning water and sanitation project in Cambodia.

The Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute is focused on discovering more about how the body develops and repairs itself in the hope that the information could one day be used to treat certain diseases, conditions and injuries. To further their understanding, they work with model organisms with regenerative capabilities, like zebra fish and axolotls, and study the underlying mechanisms that give stem cells their unique abilities. Gulrez Chahal is a Research Scholar at Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute.

Every family wants the very best education for their children. For some Indigenous families in remote and regional communities, this may mean moving away from home to school in a big city; making that step can be hugely difficult. The Melbourne Indigenous Transition School (MITS) seeks to empower Indigenous students to make this step providing unique educational support. Ed Tutor is the founding executive director of the Melbourne Indigenous Transition School, The Melbourne Indigenous Transition School is a residential transition school for Indigenous students from remote Top End and regional Victorian communities. Each year, 22 Indigenous boys and girls (around Year Seven age) come to live at the MITS campus in the Vaucluse, Richmond. Each day they go school inside the Richmond Football Club, where they study an intensive curriculum focused on numeracy and literacy. MITS provides a warm home-style environment that celebrates culture and understands the challenges of transitioning from remote community to big city. At the end of their MITS year, the students move into scholarship positions at high-performing Melbourne Partner Schools. Throughout their MITS year, every student is involved in extra-curricular activities at Partner Schools, providing genuine transitional learning for both student and school.
