Our Rotary Club is a member of DIK Inc the major sponsor of Donations In Kind West Footscray. The members of this group pay the rent and contribute the majority of the $50,000 pa operating costs. The Store which is wholly run by volunteers is one of Rotary’s great success stories. It recycles quality donated goods and gives them to people in genuine need for free.

    Youth Programs

    The Rotary Club of Balwyn is an active supporter of the many Rotary Youth programs including: Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) is a week-long residential program for young people aged 18 to 25, which focuses on personal growth, leadership development and community. Sunday 3rd - Saturday 9th December 2017 Applications for RYLA now open! ​​​Are you aged between 18-25? ​Do you live, work, study or volunteer within District 9800? Do you have an open mind? Ready to challenge yourself? ​Take on the RYLA challenge ​! RYLA Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) is a Youth Leadership conference for young people who are between 15 and 17 and are year 9, 10 or 11 students. The conference is a weekend long camp designed at developing young people’s potential through a mixture of lecture style sessions and adventure- based learning. RYPEN National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) runs annual residential programs to encourage young people in their passion for science. It gives year  12 students a broader understanding of the diverse study and career options available in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and encourages them to continue their studies in these fields.     Four Way Test Public Speaking Competition

    The Four Way Test Public Speaking Competition is based on similar competitions that had been run by a number of Clubs over many years. The objectives are to provide a competitive outlet for secondary students attending schools within the City of Boroondara to hone their public speaking skills and promote the Rotary Four Way Test to secondary students as a moral compass—a positive way of living their lives.

    Boroondara Literary Awards

    The Boroondara Literary Awards are run in conjunction  with the Boroondara Council. Held annually since 1999, they are a great way of unearthing local talent and inspiring people to be creative. They also promote interest in books and writing across the community, particularly for young people. Held each year in partnership with the City of Boroondara, the Awards encourage creativity in writers of all ages. The competition categories include the Young Writers competition and the Open Short Story competition. The Open Short Story competition includes the Keith Carroll Award for the best entry submitted by a Boroondara resident. As well as cash prizes, winners will have their work published in the Boroondara Literary Awards anthology. The Boroondara Literary Awards judging panel for 2021 is comprised of award winning authors Chloe Hooper (Open Short Story, Leanne Hall (Young Writers Prose) and Nam Le (Young Writers Poetry).
