The West Gate Bridge Disaster—A Failure at the Engineering, Organisational and Personal Levels.
Richard Olive will explain the errors in structural engineering in simple terms which will appeal to the intuition of a lay audience. But beyond the technicalities, he will explain the shortcomings in the various organisations involved – the owners, the consultants, the contractors and the unions. As well, he will discuss the pressures upon the young engineers, who paid the ultimate price for their errors. The talk will draw heavily upon the Royal Commission Report.
